NUTRITION FOR MENOPAUSE
Why Food Is Your Most Powerful Tool
If you’ve landed here searching for “nutrition for menopause,” you’re probably wondering how on earth what you eat can make this much difference. I promise you, it can. Let me show you how.
I’m Rachel, and I’ve Lived This Too…
I’m a Nutritional Therapist, specialising in menopause nutrition, and I found myself in full-blown menopause at 43, running a busy commercial kitchen, raising two young kids, and not connecting the dots on my own symptoms until I was well into them. That experience is exactly why I retrained, and it’s why everything I teach is food-first. Not clinical, not complicated. Just real food, doing real work. Lived it, then studied it. That’s the short version…
Why Nutrition Matters So Much Right Now
As your oestrogen declines through perimenopause and menopause, your risk rises for what I call the Big 4:
- Cardiovascular disease
- Type 2 diabetes
- Osteoporosis
- Alzheimer’s and dementia
That’s not there to scare you. It’s there because these are lifestyle-related conditions, which means you have real influence over them, starting with what’s on your plate. Nutrition is one of the most powerful, practical tools you have to protect your long-term health and manage what you’re feeling right now.
Adequate Isn’t Good Enough Anymore…
Here’s what most women aren’t told: your body doesn’t just need “enough” nutrients during menopause; it needs optimised levels of them. The old rules from your 20s and 30s (eat less, move more, wait it out) don’t work the same way anymore, and restriction can actually backfire, signalling to your body to hold on rather than let go.
This is where the Meno 8 comes in, the eight key nutrients I focus on with every client: phytoestrogens, fibre, omega-3, calcium and magnesium, antioxidants, protein, probiotics and brassicas. Get intentional about these, and everything from your energy to your sleep to your digestion starts to shift- in your favour…
Does Any of This Sound Familiar?
- You’re exhausted by mid-afternoon and can’t work out why
- You’re bloated most days, no matter what you eat
- Sleep is patchy, and it’s driving you toward sugar and carbs the next day
- You know roughly what you should be doing, but you don’t have the time, energy or headspace to actually do it
- You’ve had enough of conflicting advice online and just want to know what actually works for your body
If you’re nodding along, you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. This is menopause, and it responds brilliantly to the right kind of nourishment.

Nourish for Menopause My cookbook, built around the Meno 8, with over 100 recipes and the science behind why they work. Available in bookshops nationwide and online including Amazon. It is about to relaunch in paperback version with an endorsement from Trinny Woodall.
Most women start with Beat the Bloat and build from there. Wherever you’re at, there’s a next step that fits.
A Quick Word on Weight
I won’t pretend weight loss isn’t part of why you’re here. It’s usually the thing that gets women through my door. But it’s not what I promise, and this is why: When you nourish your body properly – take the focus off weight loss and place it firmly on nourishment instead- with optimised nutrient intake – your weight and shape often do shift – you will find that you do lose weight – which is evidence the approach is working, but not the point of it. The point is feeling like yourself again: which involves balancing your hormones, increasing your energy, feeling mentally & physically strong, enjoying being more active, all of which improves your long-term health outcomes & risk reduction for those big 4…
Recognised for This Work
I was named Nutritionist of the Year at the 2025 Evoke.ie Wellness Awards, and Nourish for Menopause has been featured across national press, including the Irish Times, with a Claire Byrne (Newstalk) radio feature to follow around the paperback relaunch coming up..
Ready to Feel Like Yourself Again?
We spend more time in menopause than we do in our entire reproductive years combined. That’s not a life stage to just get through; it’s one worth genuinely thriving in.
